Exclusive Interview With Chillwave / Lo-fi Producer – Rosehip
Forever inspired by the world around us, Rosehip’s sensory brand of vibrant, atmospheric beats paints pictures in your mind, transporting you to other worlds. His dreamlike music, unrestricted by genre or mood, portrays stories; from absorbing adventure to melancholic reflection. Rosehip provides a musical narration on the experiences of life.
With over 10 million streams on all DSP’s, Rosehip is fast becoming a household name in the Electronica / Chillwave / Lo-fi music world. Gathering momentum since his viral 2020 breakthrough track ‘Awake’, his explorative mini-album ‘Origins’ served as an early musical blueprint for the Rosehip sound, introducing the many flavors, colors and sentiments we can expect from the up-and-coming artist in years to come.
- Hi Rosehip, welcome to Soundrive, where are we speaking to you from today?
Hey Soundrive, I am speaking to you from my self-made campervan conversion in the Peak District, England.
- Your music has garnered millions of streams online, but for those that aren’t familiar with you, can you give us some background into the project and how you got into music production?
I got into producing music recording guitars into Ableton as a teenager. I tried my hand at making electronic music but it wasn’t until my 20’s that I started picking up some momentum. Rosehip was a way to present my music under a fitting identity or brand, a bit more fun than just using my name.
- You are gearing up to release your Odyssey EP, which is your biggest project to-date. Can you tell us about the concept behind the collection of work.
I wrote Odyssey during the late summer in 2021 when the weather was hot, the skies were blue and feelings were on a high after a wonderful summer. For me it incapsulates the mood of holidays and adventure, as well as the feeling of laying in a sun-soaked field with a beer in hand, watching the sun set.
- You recently released Found from the EP, what has the initial response been like?
Found is perhaps my favorite song from the EP. It has this fantastic uplifting energy which is really captivating. I received a lot of love and good responses from people, playlist curators and the industry as a whole. I’m very grateful for this.

- Next up, you’re releasing a lovely chilled number called Yawn with English poet Kali Says What. How did you guys come to work together and what did you hope to achieve with this one?
I actually wrote the music for Yawn years ago during the lockdown in 2020. I feel like it has that dazed, rosy feeling that many of us can relate to. However, I always felt it needed a top-line to really complete it. When recording some poetry readings for ‘Kali Says What’ I thought the imagery of one of her poems could suit the track really well. On putting them together it was a fantastic combination, rich with the enchanted dreamlike energy that is captured in both of our art.

- What inspires you to create music?
I think emotion more than anything. It doesn’t necessarily matter what emotions, just feeling something provides the inspiration to put it into music. Excitement, sadness, awe, optimism etc. all lead the music making process on a different path and the stronger you feel it, the more powerful the end result.
- What else can we expect from you over the next few months?
My next release Bloom is coming out on 21st April. This is a chill Lofi-style track with a satisfying and contemplative atmosphere. After that we have Nectar, an exciting vocal-lead collaboration, and the full Odyssey EP is out on 15th September.
- When you aren’t making music, how do you like to spend your free time?
I like to travel, and now my self-made campervan conversion is finished I can easily drive off into beautiful spots in the country to have some time in nature to make music or just live life without distractions.
- Your track Awake has been streamed almost 9 million times on Spotify, how does that make you feel?
The reaction to Awake never fails to amaze me! It’s quite mind-blowing how many times it’s been streamed and it has helped me begin to forge a career in music. I never could have predicted this as I was making it but I am certainly very thankful and appreciative.
