EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

1) How did you first get into DJing and producing electronic dance music?

I have always had a deep love and appreciation for music. Music in general has been in my family for a few generations. However, last year I was drawn to music production as a way to express myself and channel my inner creatively in order to make music for others. Ultimately, I would say the passing of my grandmother, who was one of my best friends, was the main variable or reason my music interest ignited the way it did. A major part of me was lost and I filled the gap with learning how to produce. Since then I sought out music production courses and picked up production fairly quickly.

2) Who are some of your biggest influences in the industry?

I have a few influences in the industry and my love for EDM started with hearing the Skrillex remix of Cinema at a Pretty Lights concert in 2011. So I would say Skrillex influenced me in that regard.

Fast forwarding to today, my biggest influence is William Black. I just think the way he pours emotion into his tracks is just so unique and beautiful. I love his sounds and style. After seeing him live at Escape Halloween in 2021 it really hit me that I wanted to develop my own production skills so that people could connect with the music I make. Along with William Black, Illenium, Seven Lions, Nurko, and Trivecta all influence me to produce.

3) Can you walk us through your process for creating a new track?

This is a great question and its something that has actually evolved since I have learned more and more about producing. First, I have to start with a chord progression, whether it be with a piano or guitar. I feel the chord progression is the main backbone of the track so this is very important. While developing a nice progression I try and make an emotional atmosphere that compliments the progression and really sets the tone for my track. Essentially once I hook myself with these two things I go on a search for a vocalist.

Sometimes these things are going on at the same time but generally this is what motivates me to continue my song. Once I have the idea for these elements it takes off from there. I will also say, I feel like it’s important to finish every idea you start so I start off with that mindset as well. I never leave an idea behind, even if its not that great, maybe it will evolve into something else, but regardless the repetition and completion of tracks has been a huge part of my success so far.

4) How do you prepare for a gig? Do you have any pre-performance rituals or routines?

I haven’t had any gigs yet, but my routine right now includes being my best self and really learning the ins and out of producing music. I want to have a solid catalog of my own music to play at my first gig so I at least have something to show case while also playing other music that people love to hear.

5) What has been your favorite gig or event to play at so far in your career?

I hope to play my first gig very soon. This will be the highlight of my career so far!

6) What’s next for you in terms of new projects or goals?

In terms of new projects, I have a lot of music coming out this year that I am really proud of and excited to share. A few singles are in the process of getting signed right now. I also have a few collaborations that I have really enjoyed making and people I have gotten to know on a personnel level. I hope to continue making friends and networking.

One of my biggest goals this year is exposure. As a new producer I just want to have my music heard. It’s not about the money for me. It’s about the connections people develop with my music. I also hope to continue interacting with fans to let them know that I care and I am just a normal guy going through everyday life, just like them.

Professional development is also a goal of mine. I am developing my brand and investing in EDM coaching sessions. I’ll be starting new mentoring sessions with a well known artist in the industry that I am beyond excited about. I am confident this will help me take my sounds to the next level.

And although I am a new artist, I want to help in whatever way I can to help other new and upcoming artist. To assist with this I am curating my own Spotify playlist specifically for up and coming artist. I genuinely believe these connections and assistance to other artist is way more valuable than some people might think, so this is one of my top priorities.

7) In your free time, what do you like to do outside of music? Do you have any hobbies or passions outside of the industry?

Outside of music I am a family man. I enjoy exploring the world with my family. We love going on hikes and playing sports outside. We go camping every now and then and explore national parks too. I am very passionate about Tennessee Volunteer football haha and you can catch me cheering any Tennessee related sport throughout the year.

8) What do you hope to achieve with your music in the long-term?

There are a few things I hope to accomplish long-term. At some point in my career I hope my music will have influenced someone in some way that might not have happened otherwise. I want my music to be powerful enough to do that. If I can get my music to do that I have been successful. It might seem cliche, but also in the long-term I want to play a major music festival. Having everyone together in one place like this to hear my music would be the best feeling in the world and one hell of an experience.

9) Can you share any tips or advice for aspiring DJs and producers who are just starting out in the industry?

As I am just starting out myself, but I do have some advice. I have learned a lot of things so far and when chatting with other artist the one thing that has stood out to me the most is, don’t try to be like someone else, by that I mean, don’t try to be exactly like your favorite artist. It’s ok to be similar and reference their tracks, etc. But don’t let that hinder your creativity.

Producing is an art and if you look at it this way, maybe try something different and unique that someone else hasn’t tried or is out of the norm. If it sounds good, it probably is good. I struggle with this sometimes myself, don’t get me wrong, but we need to keep it fun and interesting. Think of it like an artist painting and don’t try and make the painting look exactly the same as another artist.

End____

Blaine’s dedication and passion for his craft are evident in every aspect of his music. He continues to push the boundaries of his creativity and is always looking for new ways to innovate and evolve his sound. With his unique musical atmosphere and emotive sound, Blaine is definitely an artist to watch in the world of Future Bass and Melodic Dubstep.
