EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Tell us about the first track that put you on the map in the electronic scene and the journey since. How did you get started?

My first track is called One True House, and I got to play this at a show during ADE in 2019. A few months after this covid hit, so that stopped all plans of trying to set up a tour.
On the other hand, this gave me a lot of time to improve my production, and make a lot of new tracks. I have always been into electronic music, but the last years more an more into tech house. One day I figured I wanted to make this music myself, and I had a lot of fun doing it, so I decided this is the style I want to continue with.

Tell us about your latest project ‘Work My Body’

I wanted to create a track I knew would hit hard on a dancefloor, so I spent a lot of time creating the groove with drums and the baseline. The vocal was a sample I came over, and I believe was a good fit with the rest of the track.

Tell us something we wouldn’t normally find out about you?

I am actually an educated economist, but I decided not to take my life in that direction, and rather focus on what makes me happy, which is making music and having fun doing shows.

What single night out has been most memorable for you as a DJ and producer?

That would have to be my second time playing ADE, last year. Had a lot of fun playing a lot of my own releases.

Give us the name of one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you listen to it?

Bad Behavior by Dennis Cruz. He is one of the reasons I got into tech house in the first place.

Dream collaboration and why?

Dennis Cruz by far, been a fan for many years, so that would be a dream come true.

If you could play any festival, which would it be?

A tough question, but maybe Tomorrowland if I have to choose one.

How do you get a track started? tell us about your production process

Sometimes I find a nice vocal sample I choose to build a track around. Other times I focus more on getting the perfect bassline and basic groove before anything else. The process is not the same every time.

Upcoming projects? What are you currently working on?

I have three original tracks to be released in February, March and April, as well as a remix I am doing for ATLAST records, that will be released sometime in february. So a lot going on at the moment!

The relationship between a DJ and the audience is crucial, and yet is seems to be a fragile one – how do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?

When I DJ as AW, I am there to present my tracks and the style of music that I like. And I always hope and believe that the audience will enjoy it. The most fun is giving them something entirely new, preferably some of my own stuff, and getting a good reaction of it.
