In an era where synth-driven nostalgia meets modern emotional storytelling, few new acts arrive with the sincerity, craftsmanship, and unlikely origin story of The Synthwave Brothers.
Formed across continents (Marcellus O’Connor in the United States and Ivo Heerings in the Netherlands) the duo have quickly become one of the most compelling new forces under Bad Bot Records LLC, merging smooth synthwave piano lines with pulsing drumwork and deeply heartfelt lyricism. Their upcoming debut album, “Only Love Remains”, encapsulates the charm of two musicians who nearly stopped making music altogether… only to discover each other at exactly the right moment.
A Transatlantic Spark: How The Synthwave Brothers Came to Be
The group’s story begins not in a studio, but within a playlist community founded by Marcellus O’Connor in early 2025 – an experiment involving 70 independent musicians from around the world. After months of feeling his music wasn’t reaching the audience he hoped for, Marcellus considered closing the group and stepping back from releasing music entirely.
Everything changed when one of the members invited Dutch producer and DJ Ivo Heerings – known locally as DJ Aquana and celebrated for his chart-topping single Open My Eyes – to join the playlist. Ivo discovered several of Marcellus’s piano-driven synthwave pieces and reached out. The two instantly connected.
From there, the creative chemistry was undeniable. Their first collaboration, Tech Dream Scape, blossomed into a partnership neither expected. Marcellus’s synth-filtered pianos and hand-crafted drum patterns became the emotional framework for Ivo’s meticulous production, vocal performances, and sound mastering. Despite a six-hour time difference, the workflow clicked. The duo had discovered an elegant musical symmetry: one composes the dreamscape, the other breathes life into it. Thus, The Synthwave Brothers were born.

Craft and Vision: How the Sound Is Made
The Synthwave Brothers aren’t chasing the neon-soaked clichés of the genre; they’re refining them. Their approach centers on piano-rooted melodies, hypnotic percussion sequences, and vocals shaped with precision using Moises Studio, FL Studio, Audition, and Ableton. Ivo’s vocal modulation techniques add an almost cinematic glow, while Marcellus’s instrumentals anchor the tracks with analog warmth and emotional depth.
Every song undergoes final mastering at Ivo’s Netherlands-based music studio, resulting in the polished synthwave sheen listeners hear across their releases.
The duo summarizes their sound as “Smooth synthwave piano melodies. Hypnotic drum beats. Deep emotional lyrics.”
And the music delivers exactly that.

TRACK REVIEW: The Journey of “Only Love Remains”
Though the full 13-track album will release physically in 2026 on CD and vinyl, several singles already chart the group’s creative trajectory.
Neon Shadows
Released September 2025
Dark, atmospheric, and instantly gripping, Neon Shadows is the perfect opening chapter to the Synthwave Brothers story. Lush pads shimmer under Marcellus’s piano motifs while Ivo’s vocals glide across the track with crisp emotional clarity. It’s a song that feels both retro and timeless—a confident debut.
Only Love Remains
Released October 30, 2025
Already viral on Instagram with 500+ shares before release, Only Love Remains has “breakout hit” written all over it. The track blends emotive storytelling with sweeping synth layers, swelling chord progressions, and a melody that lingers long after it ends. This is the duo at their most cinematic.
Monochrome
Releasing November 28, 2025
Moody and introspective, Monochrome explores the grey areas of the heart—those blurred memories and half-lit emotions. The arrangement is elegant, with piano lines that feel fragile yet determined, paired with haunting vocal textures.
Lost in Time
Releasing December 19, 2025
This track leans into a dreamier palette. Its drifting synths, echoing percussion, and nostalgic chord structures evoke the feeling of wandering through memories. It’s the kind of song that could fit seamlessly into a sci-fi film or a midnight drive playlist.
Stuck in My Mind
A raw emotional core drives this track. The interplay between rhythmic piano strikes and airy synth layers reinforces the theme of mental entanglement—music for anyone who’s ever wrestled with their own thoughts.
Ordinary Stars
Warm, uplifting, and expansive, Ordinary Stars feels like a celebration of human connection. The track radiates the duo’s signature balance: gentle piano phrases contrasted with bold synth sweeps.
Light Over Darkness
Light Over Darkness promises hopeful crescendos and emotional resolve. This is the song that will glow brightest during live performances.
CD and vinyl editions will be available through ElasticStage, offering fans a tangible piece of the Synthwave Brothers sonic universe.
