More than just another release, this track represents a milestone moment in SEDAR’s career: his first official release on Dim Mak’s forward-thinking imprint New Noise. Known for spotlighting cutting-edge talent, New Noise provides the perfect platform for TATE’s mission to push electronic music into the future while staying true to its roots.
“breakDOWN” was first sparked in late summer 2023, when TATE began experimenting with new textures and rhythms. The result is a dark yet uplifting journey that blends breakbeat-inspired drums, nostalgic synths, and a stuttered vocal lead. The track mirrors the stages of a mental breakdown — fracture, contemplation, and ultimately release — with harmonic shifts and lyrical drops guiding the listener through each phase.
The concept of “breakDown” plays on multiple levels, from the breakbeat foundation, to the ‘breakdowns’ that counterbalance the drop, until the pre-drop vocal that urges listeners to break out into movement. To elevate its precision and energy, TATE collaborated with Stephen Schroeder (SCHROEDS), a producer and engineer celebrated for his work with Mary Droppinz and Paul Oakenfold. The outcome is a track that is at once pensive, dramatic, and undeniably danceable.
TATE SEDAR is a reflective artist evolving electronic music by exploring its impact and the grey areas between bass, electro & progressive. He was born in San Francisco, while raised on both coasts of the US and in London for 7 years. Since his global debut on the 2020 EDC Virtual Rave-a-Thon, he has earned 15M+ independent plays, 4 radio-supported tracks on a slot on the Insomniac Events artist roster and features on most major dance blogs.
Beyond his recent signing with DIm Mak, he has mixed alongside R3hab, Dada Life, Don Diablo, Cash Cash, Borgeous, Breathe Carolina, Wolfgang Gartner, Disco Lines, Henry Fong, NIIKO x SWAE, DallasK and Blake Webber — all while staying true to his mission: 𝖙𝖔 𝖑𝖎𝖛𝖊 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖉𝖆𝖓𝖈𝖊 𝖙𝖗𝖚𝖊.
