AIGEL Drops Electrifying New Single ‘Killer Qiz’ Ahead of Upcoming Album Release on 3-14

The dynamic electronic duo AIGEL is back with a bang, unveiling their latest single, Killer Qiz, on March 14th. This track serves as the first taste of their forthcoming album of the same name, slated for release on March 28th. Known for their genre-bending sound and powerful storytelling, AIGEL once again pushes boundaries with this highly anticipated project.

AIGEL: A Defiant Voice in Electronic Music

Formed in 2016, AIGEL is the brainchild of Tatar singer-songwriter Aigel Gaisina and music producer Ilya Baramila. Originally from Kazan and Saint Petersburg, respectively, the duo has always infused their work with raw emotion and socio-political depth. However, following their vocal anti-war stance in response to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, they found themselves banned from Russia, leading Aigel to relocate to Berlin and Ilya to Montenegro.

Their music, performed in Russian, Tatar, and English, blends haunting lyricism with experimental electronic beats. This fusion has earned them a dedicated global following, particularly after their breakthrough with 1190 (2017). The album’s hit single Tatarin became a viral sensation, racking up over 118 million views on YouTube and clinching the Berlin Music Awards.

AIGEL continued making waves with the 2020 music video You’re Born, released just two days after Vladimir Putin’s presidential terms were controversially reset. The video’s striking political imagery earned them a Silver Lion at Cannes Lions and widespread recognition across international film festivals.

Their reach expanded further in 2023 with Piyala, a Tatar-language track that dominated the global Shazam charts and secured top spots on Apple Music and Spotify across Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Its music video amassed 40 million views in just four months, cementing AIGEL’s status as one of the most compelling acts in modern electronic music.

Killer Qiz: A Story of Rebellion on the Dancefloor

The upcoming album Killer Qiz is as bold as it is infectious. The album’s narrative follows a DJ who takes down a high-ranking official on the dance floor with her music before fleeing the country with her lover. Through its satirical lens, the album paints a vivid picture of contemporary Russian society, portraying chaotic scenes of war correspondents, bureaucrats, and ‘couch troops’ scrambling to escape as the protagonists make their daring getaway—set to a pulsating hardcore beat.

Beyond its rebellious storyline, Killer Qiz is a deeply introspective album, grappling with themes of mortality, rebirth, and human nature. Musically, it’s a melting pot of influences, drawing from K-pop, hardbass, and avant-garde electronica, all while staying true to AIGEL’s unmistakable style.

The duo’s creative journey took a significant turn after February 24th, 2022. Faced with exile and displacement, Aigel found solace in her native Tatar language, using it as a vessel for self-expression in a world that seemed increasingly unrecognizable. This linguistic and cultural exploration shapes Killer Qiz, making it one of AIGEL’s most personal and profound works to date.
