Trap Titans Ookay, Highlnd, and Jasper Turn Up the Heat on Emotional Banger “So What”

Ookay, Highlnd, and Jasper Tackle Heartbreak with a Fiery Trap Anthem “So What” via Lost In Dreams Records.

Ookay is a producer who has remained at the forefront of trap and melodic bass since the inception of the genres. Highlnd is a buzzing producer making his name in dance music with a sound informed by his affinity for emo, trap and pop. Rising singer/songwriter jasper has been showcasing her talents across both pop and electronic music.

The three L.A.-based artists are merging their collective talents for “So What.” The break-up anthem arrives on Lost In Dreams, and is dripping with attitude.

“So What” is not your typical breakup ballad. Emanating sarcasm, the track uses indifference to mask the pain of losing someone special. The silky vocal croon, courtesy of jasper, drifts over pensive piano keys and creates a bittersweet air of longing.

The vocal delivery moves from calm and collected to emotionally-charged, despite the nonchalance portrayed in the lyrics. The opposing forces simulate the push and pull of feeling the pain and the desire to not let it cut deep. Crisp trap drums drive the track forward alongside slinking synth leads.

The expletive-laden hook erupts into an explosion of emotion as the questioning vocals swirl and echo over rapid-fire riffs and classic dubstep bounces. Pulsing bass reverberates through the break and transforms into a wonky exclamation point during the climax. “So What” plays like an emotional rollercoaster despite the cavalier attitude it exudes.

Ookay speaks to the organic nature of the collaboration, saying, “‘So What’ came so naturally—starting from scratch and honestly having a naturally fun time. We poured a lot of love into this record and are very excited to share it with the world!”

Highlnd adds his excitement around the release, stating, “Feels good to be back on Lost in Dreams alongside Ookay and jasper. The chemistry in that first studio session manifested into a song we’re extremely proud of.

Opening up about what the song means to her, jasper explains: “To me, the song encompasses the tumultuous emotions of losing someone that you still love. You want to have that edge; that ‘your loss’ kind of energy, but love will always make you soft.”

Hailing from Los Angeles, Ookay has been a leading figure in the trap and melodic bass scene since the sounds first started to take root. His impressive catalog spans more than a decade with a multitude of stellar solo releases and stacked collaborations alongside Showtek, Borgore, Infekt, JSTJR, Taska Black, and YDG. Ookay is gearing up for an upcoming performance at Sky SLC.
