Exciting New Electronic Duo Mar y Cel Release their Fabulous Debut Single Thrill Me

Exciting new electronic duo Mar y Cel release their fabulous debut single Thrill Me, out now via 1980 Recordings.

Two seasoned and successful DJ / Producers in their own right, the chance to do something incognito appealed. To just let the music talk, no preconceptions of their previous work. Barcelona resident Mar regularly comes across the sea to form symbiotic sounds with Ibiza based Cel, under the bright blue ibiza skies which makes their aliases very fitting.

Mar y Cel (Catalan for Sea and Sky) first met some years ago, at the eponymous Mar y Cel Café in Figueretas, Ibiza. The café embodies what life is like when you live on The White Island all year round. Sunny out-of-season afternoons when musicians get to slow the pace, reflecting over a caña, watching the world go by on the promenade…and talk about the music they love.

Their solo work, both chart topping and underground, appears on leading and respected labels including Universal Music, Sirup, NewStateMusic, Slackers 85, Pets Recordings, Moody Recordings, and Pacha Recordings. Pete Tong, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Catz N Dogz, Annie Mac, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, and Danny Howard are just a few of their many supporters.

On one of these bright early spring days, Cel and Mar were bonding over a shared admiration of Junior Jack, and in particular, 2002’s stonewall classic, Thrill Me. Cel asked, “If you remixed Thrill Me, how would you go about it, Mar?”

The creative juices started to flow. Quickly paying la cuenta, the pair hit the studio. What you hear HERE is the fruit of that labour, passed between Mar and Cel, slow brewed until it was perfect.

A big, bouncy kick drum gets your heart pumping to 121 bpm, paired with super hi-hats. Synths subtly creep up, increasing the intensity without changing tempo, getting you into the mood. Until one minute through, when the shizzle really kicks off. That famous chorus-car-alarm-synth bursts in. And the vocals. Super sexy.

Sex, pills, basement thrills / This is how we like to party
Sex, pills, basement thrills / Come up on the floor, get naughty

Taking a track this classic and adding to it is usually difficult. Luckily Mar y Cel are remixers extraordinaire. And if you love Thrill Me (which it’s hard not to), stay tuned for L.A. Dysto’s remix of Thrill Me, coming 3rd April.
