Exclusive Interview with Belgrade Based DJ Producer Maestro - Neo Paulex

Serbian producer Neo Paulex returns with ‘Harmony,’ a captivating progressive house release that blends deep emotion, immersive atmospheres, and driving progressive rhythms into a powerful sonic experience.

Hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, Neo Paulex, born Nemanja Pavlović, has been shaping his sound since 2009. What started as a passion for exploring sound has grown into a musical journey across house, progressive and melodic electronic music. Throughout his evolution as a producer, house music has remained at the heart of his artistic identity, serving as the driving force behind a sound that continues to develop and mature.

Now he makes his debut on UFO Recordz with “Harmony,” a new single released on 25 September 2026. Blending atmospheric textures, emotive melodies and uplifting progressive house rhythms, the track showcases the evolving sonic identity of the Serbian producer, bringing together deep feeling and a vibrant, melodic drive.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

1. “Harmony” has a strong emotional and atmospheric quality. What inspired the track, and what does the title “Harmony” mean to you personally?

“Harmony” came from the idea of creating something emotional but still energetic enough for the dancefloor. I wanted the track to have a strong feeling while keeping the production clean and powerful.

For me, the title “Harmony” represents balance. Balance between emotion and energy, melody and rhythm, and between all the different elements of the track. That balance is something I’m always looking for in my music.

2. How did the production of “Harmony” come together, from the initial idea through to the finished release?

I approach every track by feeling it first. When I hear a sound or a vocal that inspires me, I immediately start imagining a story around it, and that usually becomes the starting point for the whole track.

That’s exactly what happened with “Harmony”. The vocal caught my attention first, and from its feeling and character I started creating the melody, harmonies and the rest of the production around it. From there, I kept developing the idea and experimenting with different elements until everything came together naturally.

I don’t usually have the whole track planned from the beginning. I prefer to follow that first feeling and let the music tell me where it wants to go.

3. Your sound has evolved considerably since your early releases. How would you describe the direction your music has taken over the past few years?

My sound has changed a lot over the years. I started with a strong connection to House and EDM, and since then I’ve explored many different sides of electronic music.

Today, I’m interested in combining the energy and production style I developed through EDM with more melodic and deeper elements. I’m also experimenting with Afro House and different rhythmic ideas.

I don’t really want to put myself into one box. I’d rather keep evolving and see where the music takes me.

4. You began producing music back in 2009. Looking back, what do you think has changed most about you as a producer since those early days?

Probably the biggest change is that I understand much better what I want to say through my music.

When I started in 2009, I was mainly focused on learning how to produce and trying to make tracks that sounded like the music I loved. Today, I have much more experience with arrangement, sound design, mixing and the overall creative process.

But I think the biggest difference is confidence. I’m much more comfortable experimenting and trusting my own ideas instead of trying to follow what everyone else is doing.

5. You have released music on labels including Black Hole Recordings, High Five Music, Alveda Music and now UFO Recordz. What have you learned from working with different labels and audiences throughout your career?

Every label has its own identity, audience and way of approaching music, so every release has taught me something different.

I’ve learned that releasing music is about much more than simply finishing a track. The presentation, promotion and connection with the audience can make a big difference.

At the same time, I think it’s important to stay true to your own sound. Labels and platforms can change, but your identity as an artist should continue developing naturally.

6. Your music has explored progressive, melodic and deeper shades of House. How important is it for you to avoid being restricted by a particular genre?

It’s very important to me. Genres are useful for describing music, but I don’t want them to become creative limitations.

I can make something that is very EDM oriented one day and something much deeper or more Afro-influenced another day. What connects everything is my own approach to melody, energy and production.

For me, the goal is not to fit perfectly into a genre. The goal is to make music that feels authentic to me.

7. You have mentioned that music for you is about creating an experience and telling a story. What kind of story do you hope listeners take away from “Harmony”?

I don’t want to give the listener one specific story. I actually prefer when people can create their own meaning from the music.

“Harmony” has emotion and energy, and I hope people can connect with that in their own way. Whether they listen to it through headphones, in a car or on a dancefloor, I want them to feel something from it.

8. From your early appearances on the Belgrade club scene to performing for international audiences, which moments in your career have had the biggest impact on your development as an artist?

Starting to perform in Belgrade at a young age had a huge impact on me. Playing in front of a real crowd teaches you things that you simply cannot learn in the studio.

Every performance has helped me understand how people react to different energy, transitions and moments in a set. At the same time, releasing music internationally and seeing people from different countries connect with my productions has been incredibly motivating.

Looking back, I think all of those experiences, both the good and the difficult ones, have shaped the artist I am today.

9. Your catalogue includes everything from original productions to your official remix of Jax Jones and Au/Ra’s “I Miss You.” Is there a particular release or project that opened up a new creative direction for you?

There have been several important moments in my career, but I think every release has contributed something to my development.

Working on different types of projects, including official remix work, taught me how to approach music from different perspectives. You have to respect the identity of the original while still bringing something of your own into it.

That experience helped me become more confident with experimentation, which is something I continue to explore in my productions today.

10. With “Harmony” marking another step in your musical evolution, what can listeners expect from Neo Paulex next? Are there any new projects or musical directions you are particularly excited about?

I have a lot of new music in progress at the moment, and I’m really excited about where my sound is going. I’m continuing to explore the combination of electronic dance music with Afro House, stronger vocal ideas and different rhythmic elements. At the same time, I don’t want to limit myself to one particular direction.

There are also some collaborations and new releases I’m working on, so I’m looking forward to sharing more music very soon. I think the next chapter is going to be very interesting.
