Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Michelle Breeze is a singer and songwriter who fronted the band Fetish, formed in 1996. Playing alternative rock with a gothic edge, the band’s sound was very much focused around Breeze. Fetish released their debut self-titled album in 1997 to good reviews. The initial 1000 copies of were packaged in a different tie-dyed, gold-embossed material fabric covering and having a number on the box which only shows up under ultraviolet light.
The follow-up, 1999’s So Many Prophets, expanded their audience and became a minor hit in South Africa. The album “So Many Prophets” of the same year established the band as darlings of the European underground.
They subsequently moved to the UK and performed in London – but split up in 2002. In 2006, “Remains”, a collection of 16 tracks recorded between 1999-2001 was released.
