Signed at fifteen, Louise Carver released her debut single at seventeen entitled, ‘It Don’t Matter.’
It became an instant hit and reached third position on the South African national charts. Her debut album ‘Mirrors & Windows’ delivered another top 10 hit, ‘Fallen For You.’ Louise then caught the attention of legendary deep house producer, Kenny Hawkes in London, who worked with her on the track, ‘Play The Game’ which went to no. 1 in Europe.
Due to the success of ‘Play the Game’, Sony UK licensed her song, ‘I’d Say Yes’ which again went to no. 1 in Europe, Russia & South Africa and is still a firm favourite on the dance scene worldwide. For Carver’s 2nd full-length studio album [‘Silent Scream’], she worked with the well established British production duo, ‘Tin Tin Out.’ Sony music SA signed Louise and released the first single, ‘Empty Fantasy’ which went to no.1 in South Africa. Sony released two more singles from the album, both of which were hugely popular on radio (‘Impossible Love’ and ‘Harder Than I Thought’) Louise was nominated for a South African Music Award [SAMA] under the category of ‘Best Adult Contemporary Album.’
In 2007 she joined forces with Theo Crous (of Springbok Nudegirls fame) to produce her third studio album ‘Saved By The Moonlight.’ The first single, ‘Home’ gave Louise another top ten hit on radio. Louise was nominated for two SAMA’s: ‘Best Female’ and ‘Best Adult Contemporary album.’ ‘Saved By the Moonlight’ spurned two more successful singles, ‘The Only Thing’ and ‘Didn’t Mean To Call.’ At the 2009 SAMA’s ‘Didn’t Mean To Call’ was nominated for ‘Record of the Year’ – this is a category voted for by the general public. In 2008 Carver produced, directed and starred in the ‘Home Tour Live’ show and performed to sold-out venues nationwide. Her final show was recorded live and released in conjunction with a follow up tour. It turned out to be a great year for Louise, as she went on to win a Style Award for most Stylish entertainer of 2008 and was nominated for two SAMA’s, Best Female Artist and Best adult Contemporary Album for ‘Home Tour Live.’
In 2009 Louise was asked to be a Youth Ambassador for the Independent Electoral Committee along with Natalie du Toit, as well as a 46664 Youth Ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Trust. 2010 she released her album ‘Look To The Edge.’ The first single ‘Warrior’ reached no.1. The music video was added to the MTV Europe play list and Louise performed at the Sama’s, as well as co-hosted 5 Top billing shows, a popular lifestyle show. In 2011 Louise received 4 SAMA nominations (Best female, Best adult contemporary, Song of the year for ‘Warrior’ and Remix of the year for ‘These Days’). She finished up 2011 by releasing ‘Days Go By’ with dance duo, Pascal & Pearce, which reached fifth position on the national charts.
Her fifth studio album entitled, ‘Say it to my face’ again changed musical direction and had a more electronic feel to it. The three music videos for singles, ‘You Think You Got It Easy’ (also released in Greece), ‘How You Gonna Do It’ and ‘400 Miles’ can be viewed on YouTube and all did very well on SA radio charts. In 2015 Louise took home the award for Most Glamourous Women in South Africa in the Glamour Magazine SA awards. 2016 Carver saw her single ‘Sunrise’ with US DJ Joe Bermudez take the #1 spot on the Billboard ‘Dance/Club Play’ chart. She released her 6th studio album entitled, ‘Hanging In The Void’ with ‘Lift Off’ being the first single at the end of 2016. ‘This Thing Called Love’ was the second single, which enjoyed high rotation on Adult Contemporary radio stations. ‘Remedy’ was also well received.
April 2018 saw Joe and Louise’s second single entitled, ‘Crazy Enough’, once again reach the number 1 spot on the Billboard club/dance charts. During 2019 and 2020, Louise has been in studio working with producers on new material, as well as a follow up single with Bermudez. Louise wrote ‘Swim In The Ocean’ as a response to lockdown and the global pandemic. It is a soulful song, filled with longing and love and reflects on the simple things in life, like swimming in the sea, hugging each other and seeing your parents.
Quote from Louise: ‘I had no choice during lockdown but to slow down and reconnect with myself. I rediscovered what is important to me and left behind the things that drained me. This song is probably my must soulful to date. Financially and mentally it has been an exhausting time, but I believe we will make it through and hopefully come out wiser, more authentic humans…let’s hope!’
During this time, Louise worked with renowned studio, Jazzworx who produced ‘Virtually Yours’, a live in studio show whereby Louise performed twelve of her best loved songs and showcased a different South African designer dress for each song. She was also surrounded by SA fine art sourced from the Henry George gallery in Joburg. The audio of this performance will be released as an album in 2021 and includes a live version of the new single, ‘Swim In The Ocean.’
