RISING ELECTRONIC PRODUCER SKILAH BRINGS UNFILTERED ENERGY TO NEW TECHHOUSE DRIVEN “GOMF BUT LOUDER”

Rising electronic artist Skilah returns with “GOMF BUT LOUDER,” a techhouse-driven reimagining of her September single “GOMF” that pushes the original into faster, harder territory while showcasing the increasingly diverse sound defining her sets.

Originally released September 18th, “GOMF” paired Skilah’s dark production, heavy bass and commanding original vocals with the high-impact energy that has become a defining part of her music and live performances. “GOMF BUT LOUDER” takes that foundation and turns up the intensity, transforming the record into a harder, faster version built for more and dance-ready moments.

The new release reflects the versatility that has become increasingly central to Skilah’s identity behind the decks. While her sound has traditionally leaned toward bass house, Skilah’s sets continue to move fluidly across house, electro, techno, dubstep and heavier electronic music, allowing her to adapt to vastly different stages and audiences without losing the energy at the core of her project.

That range was recently on display at Lost Lands, where Skilah brought the heavier side of her sound to one of bass music’s biggest festival stages. The performance followed a breakout year that has also included appearances at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Breakaway Music Festival, Foam Wonderland, Ubbi Dubbi + more, further establishing her as a versatile performer capable of moving comfortably across the electronic spectrum.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

You recently released “GOMF,” and now you’re taking it in a completely different direction with “GOMF BUT LOUDER.” What inspired you to revisit the record and give it a harder, techhouse-driven sound?

GOMF But Louder was actually the original version of the track. I made it for my final project in my music production class, and it has more of a bass house and electro house sound, which is pretty different from anything I’ve released before. I ended up making GOMF afterward because I felt like that version fit my sound better. But I loved the original so much that I still wanted to release it!

You recently made your Lost Lands debut, which is a major milestone for any bass music artist. What was that experience like, and how did it feel bringing your sound to that audience?

It was a little intimidating at first, considering the festival is mostly made up of dubstep and bass DJs, while I’m primarily a tech house DJ. But it ended up going really well! I love blending different genres together in my sets, so it was fun to step outside my usual sound a bit and experiment with playing heavier bass and dubstep than I normally would.

Your own vocals have become an important part of your original music. What draws you to incorporating your voice into your records, and how does that shape your creative process?

I’ve been singing my entire life, so I always knew I wanted to incorporate my own vocals into my tracks. Not only does it help me develop my own sound, but I also love experimenting with different vocal styles. GOMF has more of an aggressive, almost yelling vocal style, similar to my track Off My High, whereas songs like Sweat and Earthquake are more spoken vocals. I love being able to switch between those styles, and I definitely want to incorporate more actual singing into my music in the future.

You’ve built an audience of more than 3 million followers across social media, with many fans following your journey from content creator to touring DJ and producer. What’s been the biggest challenge in building your identity as a musician while sharing that process so publicly?

I think transitioning from social media into music is always going to be a challenge. I understand why some artists might not take me as seriously as someone who built their career solely through music. But I’ve noticed that the harder I work to establish my sound, brand, and identity as an artist, the more people start to recognize and respect what I’m doing, which has been really cool to see. With every song I release, I also feel like my creative vision becomes clearer, and I get more confident in the direction I want to take my music.

Your music has traditionally been rooted in bass house, but you’ve been experimenting more with techno, dubstep, and heavier electronic sounds. What’s been influencing that evolution, and where do you see your sound heading?

I think I’ll mostly stick to the tech house, electro, and bass house lane, but I also love playing other genres like UKG, bass, breakbeat, and dubstep. I really do love it all. Lately, I’ve been super into hyperpop too, so I’ve been experimenting with ways to blend all these sounds together and create something that feels like my own, rather than completely switching genres.
