EAST WEST HONEY Deliver Feel-Good Dance Single “Takes Two.” Lyric Jones and Wake The Wild channel groove, chemistry, and springtime energy on their latest dance release.
Released on 30 April via Tempo Soul Records, “Takes Two” is the second single from EAST WEST HONEY, the collaborative project bringing together recording artist and DJ Lyric Jones with Los Angeles electro-funk trio Wake The Wild. Built on groove-driven production, soulful vocals, and infectious dancefloor energy, the release further defines the sound the group has been steadily shaping together over the past year.
Produced and written by EAST WEST HONEY, the track combines a driving 130 BPM rhythm with punchy four-on-the-floor drums, a plucky synth bassline, filtered house stabs, and a playful call-and-response hook. The result is a record that feels equally suited to club sets and late-night drives, balancing polished electronic production with an unmistakably human warmth.
Drawing sonic inspiration from artists such as Disclosure, KAYTRANADA, AlunaGeorge, Purple Disco Machine, SG Lewis, and the early French Touch era, “Takes Two” carries a familiar dance sensibility while still sounding distinctly personal. There’s a looseness and musicality throughout the track that reflects the natural chemistry between the artists involved.
The single was written during Coachella season, at a particularly energised moment for both sides of the collaboration. Lyric Jones had just released “Sunshine” with Moon Boots through Fool’s Gold Records, while Wake The Wild were in the middle of completing their Blink EP. That creative momentum became the backdrop for the sessions that eventually shaped “Takes Two.”
Speaking on the track, Lyric Jones explained how the song became a defining moment for the project as a whole:
“We started creating ‘Takes Two’ right after Coachella, so there was this fresh spring energy in the room. I had just performed there, my song ‘Sunshine’ with Moon Boots had been released on Fool’s Gold Records, and Wake the Wild was approaching their Blink EP release, so everyone was in a really inspired creative space. This song felt like a natural meeting point between both of our worlds. It had the groove, the warmth, the playfulness, and the dancefloor energy we were all craving at the time. It also became the song that made us realize there was something bigger here, not just one collaboration, but a whole sound, a whole project, and eventually EAST WEST HONEY.”

That sense of creative alignment sits at the centre of EAST WEST HONEY’s story. What began with a simple Instagram message quickly evolved into something far more substantial. After seeing Lyric Jones perform online, Wake The Wild vocalist and keyboardist Zach Sorgen invited her to the band’s Echo Park studio for a writing session. Their first collaboration came together within hours, leading to the release of “Spend The Night” and eventually growing into a full creative partnership.
Since then, the artists have continued writing, recording, and performing together throughout Los Angeles, developing a sound rooted in soulful house, funk, R&B, jazz, and dance music. Lyric Jones contributes her versatility as a vocalist, rapper, producer, DJ, and musician, while Wake The Wild bring live instrumentation and electro-funk rhythms that give the project its organic pulse.
The name EAST WEST HONEY reflects both the spirit and texture of the collaboration. Like honey itself, the music is smooth, warm, and naturally flowing, blending different influences into something cohesive and effortless.
With “Takes Two,” EAST WEST HONEY continue to build on that foundation, delivering a track that feels vibrant, playful, and fully connected to the dancefloor energy that inspired it.
