The Berlin-based duo returns to Insomniac’s Interstellar imprint with their new two-track offering.
German duo Hidden Empire aka Branko and Niklas land on the influential Interstellar Recordings with their bold ‘Turn It Up’ EP. This pair have carved out a distinctive sound that blends hypnotic techno, driving house and cinematic textures. With releases on Stil vor Talent, Cercle and Truesoul, their productions span cosmic journeys to EBM-inspired grooves, and since debuting in 2015, they’ve always bridged the underground and commercial.
Speaking to the vibe of the lead cut “Turn It Up,” Hidden Empire says, ” This track is all about letting go, cranking the volume, and living the moment.”
The title cut is a big, chunky sound with searing synths ripping up the groove. Frazzled pads and edgy vocal stabs all bring more texture to what is an arresting main room sound. “You Are Mad” brings firing synths once more, this time with driving progressive drums and plenty of standout FX and melodies. It’s future facing and electric techno.
Hidden Empire’s sound is ambitious and unmistakably their own as this new EP shows.
Not your typical techno/house act, Branko and Niklas, alias Hidden Empire, have established a sound signature at once abstract and alluringly dynamic over the years, gathering momentum through a handful of quality releases for an array of international labels. Since the drop of their first records back in 2015, Branko and Niklas have been championing a sound both genuinely turned towards the club while allowing themselves to explore into further adventurous territories – from dreamy, cosmic excursions to a versatile arsenal of foundation-shaking EBM cuts, via exotic detours and back to the classic, floor-focused programming that flows through all of their ambitious, stadium-sized output. The pair’s wide-screen vision shows Branko and Niklas’ impeccable sense for crafting sonics that far surpass mere DJ functionality to print into the listener’s mind durably.
Hidden Empire’s new two-tracker ‘Turn It Up’ EP is available on all platforms via Interstellar Recordings.
