Dance music monoliths SLANDER unites with acclaimed songstress HALIENE to release their massive festival ID, a modern melodic bass remake of one of the most cherished hits from the ‘90s.
SLANDER and HALIENE unite on Heaven Sent to deliver a stirring reimagining of Eagle-Eye Cherry’s global hit “Save Tonight.” Out September 26, the single transforms a late-’90s classic into a modern melodic bass anthem, channeling both nostalgia and renewal through two of electronic music’s most defining forces.
Built on HALIENE’s crystalline vocals, “Save Tonight” captures the urgency of holding on to fleeting moments. Her performance arcs from delicate restraint to soaring intensity, framed by wistful piano motifs and swelling pads that erupt into striking synth surges and tumbling triplets. The production balances emotional delicacy with festival-ready impact, creating a modern interpolation that honors the original while elevating its resonance for today’s global dancefloors.
As they finally unleash their long-awaited single into the world, SLANDER says, “‘Save Tonight’ is here! We are thrilled to share our interpolation of ‘Save Tonight’ by Eagle-Eye Cherry. We grew up listening to the original song, so we were so excited when we received clearance to release our new version. Massive shoutout to HALIENE for absolutely crushing the vocal. We hope our version gives new life to the already legendary original.”
The release follows SLANDER’s recent single on their own Heaven Sent label, “Broken Hearted” with San Holo and Julia Church, which surpassed 1.8 million streams and has been a fan-favorite from their sets as of late. “Save Tonight” has been sparking its own global buzz simultaneously, with the pair debuting the ID at their inaugural Starbase festival in SoCal, in addition to a live performance of the song during their momentous back-to-back set with Illenium on the Kinetic FIeld main-stage at this year’s EDC Las Vegas.
Currently in the midst of their expansive audiovisual spectacle, ‘Voyager Tour,’ SLANDER is set to showcase “Save Tonight” live at Insomniac and Tomorrowland’s Unity event at the Sphere, with plans to perform the track alongside HALIENE during its release week.
Speaking on the significance of of the original song, and how they shaped their rendition into what it is today, HALIENE shares: “The original ‘Save Tonight’ by Eagle-Eye Cherry was such a classic from my childhood, so I jumped at the idea of reimagining it in the world of dance music. Those iconic chorus lyrics capture the exact feeling of being at a festival with your friends, lost in the moment, wanting it to last forever. SLANDER and I transformed it into an emotional bass anthem, taking something timeless and giving it a new story. I combined the chorus with a new verse to bring in a more intimate perspective of being with your friends or someone you love, sharing that unexplainable connection. It was a dream to debut it live at EDC, Starbase (SLANDER’s new festival), and the iconic Sphere—an epic way to launch something we feel so emotionally connected to.”
For HALIENE, the single marks another defining moment in a career built on voice and vision. Named EDMA’s ‘Female Artist of the Year’ in both 2023 and 2024, recognized with a Grammy nomination, she has become one of the most sought-after collaborators in melodic dance music, appearing on records with Illenium, Armin van Buuren, Excision, Seven Lions, and Gareth Emery, to name but a few.
Together, SLANDER and HALIENE reframe “Save Tonight” as a convergence of legacy and modernity, underscoring Heaven Sent’s mission as a home for emotionally resonant, forward-facing bass music. As the label continues to shape the future of the genre, this release stands as one of its most impactful statements to date.
