Following the track’s debut appearance as part of the soundtrack for the Netflix hit show ‘The Survivors’ a few weeks ago, Planet of Souls release the stunning new single ‘One’ featuring vocalist Lily Papas
The project of renowned UK-born, Sydney-based producers and songwriters Paul Rogers (Renowned for his work remixing the likes of Underworld, Gorillaz, N.E.R.D & Pharrell and U2, collaborating with UNKLE, Sasha and Pete Tong, and composing music across UK national TV) and Tom Barlow (synthesist and sound designer with releases on 20/20 Vision’s UFO, Sudbeat, and Trojan), the pair describe Planet Of Souls as “a project born from the belief that we are all, at our core, simply souls adrift on a single planet.”
Rooted in connection and reflection, Planet of Souls is a collaborative project that platforms guest vocalists, and weaves together the sounds of ethereal electronic, ambient, pop and cinematic songwriting.
The new single showcases the pair’s undeniable skill as producers whilst also displaying a musical maturity through the track’s rich sound palette and delicate arrangement. Built around warming piano, atmospheric strings and thick sub bass, the track captures a contemplative feel matched by Lily Papas’ soaring, emotive lead vocals. As comparable to London Grammar as it is to the likes of John Hopkins and even Massive Attack, ‘One’ gives an exciting taste of what’s to come from Planet Of Souls.
Speaking about the single, Paul and Tom explain: “‘One’ is a track written during a challenging time, where the world felt isolated, disconnected and dark. We felt the lyrics captured the mood of the time when it was written, and the sentiment is even truer today.”
Planet Of Souls recently saw the new single ‘One’ synced on Netflix’s The Survivor, which became the #2 most viewed shows globally on the platform in June, with coverage in The Guardian (4/5), Good Housekeeping, and Forbes. Collectively, Paul and Tom have amassed over 10 million streams, with support from BBC Radio 1 and SiriusXM. Their music has featured on a variety of major Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists.
Planet Of Souls marks a turning point for Paul Rogers and Tom Barlow – free from commercial pressures, it’s pure creative expression from two seasoned artists.
Rogers has left his mark on the global electronic, alternative and pop scenes with remixes for Underworld, Gorillaz, N.E.R.D & Pharrell, U2, The Chemical Brothers, and Kings Of Leon. He’s toured internationally, co-founded Sumsonic Recordings, and collaborated with James Lavelle, Sasha, Pete Tong, and Fink. His work spans TV, film, and commercials, including: Harry Brown, FIFA Street, National Geographic, Peroni, and Channel 4. Recently, he’s worked closely with Pete Tong on live systems, scoring, and projects for Hammer Films and Apple.
Tom Barlow is a dedicated synthesist and sound designer with releases on 20/20 Vision’s UFO, Sudbeat, and Trojan, plus features on mixes by Pete Tong and Carl Cox. His passion for analog gear and experimental techniques defines his sound. He also composes atmospheric music for film and TV.
Lily Papas is an Australian singer-songwriter whose career blends genre-defying soundscapes with poetic lyricism and a voice both haunting and powerful. Having made her her debut in 2019 with the single ‘Wild’, released through Neon Records / Universal Music Australia, the breakout track landed her performances on the AO Live Stage at the 2020 Australian Open and on The Today Show, marking a strong entrance into the national spotlight.
