Blending Latin house grooves with tech house drive, the Newcastle producer Anthony Pears delivers vibrant percussion, infectious basslines, and peak-time club energy.
Inspired by everything from 90s rave to classic hip hop, Pears has crafted a signature sound that fuses nostalgic influences with modern production. “Bad Boy” captures that style perfectly, offering rolling rhythms and feel-good vibes built for clubs, festivals, and summer dancefloors.

1. Congratulations on the release of “Bad Boy.” What was the inspiration behind the track, and how did the idea first come together?
I was looking to create something in the latin house genre, I’ve previously released on Andruss’s label Droplow Records and was heavily inspired listening to some of their latest releases, I wanted the track to be pretty minimal with the focus being on the drums to get people grooving on the dance floor.
2. “Bad Boy” blends Latin house with tech house influences. What drew you to combining these two styles for this release?
Like I said previously listening to a lot of music from that sub genre and blending it with my signature style to create something fun and new. Another main element of the track is the vocal sample which I had lots of fun with experimenting with different effects like crazy glitches to make it sit in the groove.
3. Your music is influenced by 90s hip hop and rave culture. How do those genres continue to shape your productions today?
Heavily! 90’s hiphop is my favourite music to listen to when I’m not producing dance music, I’ve studied how the greats such as DJ Premier and J Dilla would create music and try and implement that into my production technique, being from the UK and growing up around the rave scene has helped shape my sound.
4. The track has a vibrant, energetic feel that’s perfect for the dancefloor. When producing, do you picture a particular crowd or setting in your mind?
Yes and No I can imagine certain DJ’s playing it so can imagine what kind of settings it would be played in, I go to Ibiza often and always dreamt of my music being played out there whether it was in somewhere like DC10 or Akasha, I prefer back to basics clubbing over the big clubs but don’t get that twisted would love to hear my tracks played in Amnesia or HI Ibiza.
5. As both a music producer and professional tattoo artist, how do the two creative outlets influence one another?
Originally before I started producing, tattooing was my hobby which I took serious pretty fast, I set a goal of owning my own studio in 5 years which I achieved, that gave me the confidence I could achieve anything if I believe in myself, work hard and never give up. Discipline and determination are key I now implement the same mind set into my music.
6. You’re based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Has the local music scene played a role in shaping your sound or your journey as an artist?
Definitely! Newcastle is known as a party city and I was lucky enough to experience the underground scene in its heyday I would go to Shindig at Foundation club every weekend in my younger days, it was proper no frills clubbing.
7. What was the biggest challenge in producing “Bad Boy,” and was there a particular moment when you knew the track was finished?
The moment I knew I had something is when I switched the baseline, originally it had a very minimal baseline, I thought the track was done but the more I listened I realised what it needed. I took the baseline pattern from an old Naughty by Nature track just as an idea and it instantly clicked.
8. Tech house continues to evolve with new influences from around the world. Where do you see your own sound fitting within today’s electronic music scene?
I’d like to think my music ends up exactly where its meant to, which ever DJ’s do end up discovering and playing my music I would love for it to spread organically through their DJ sets whether it be their fellow producer/DJ’s or the dancers on the dance floor checking out my catalogue.
9. What do you hope DJs and listeners take away from “Bad Boy” when they hear it for the first time?
Firstly I want everbody to dance and have fun, Bad Boy is a fun track and the baseline definitely makes you want to do that, I’ve tested it in my sets and hope that other DJ’s can seamlessly mix it into their sets and create good vibes on the dance floor.
10. Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Anthony Pears for the rest of 2026? Are there more releases or collaborations already in the works?
So I have another upcoming release on UFO Recordz scheduled for release in September. I have a resident radio show with Streamculture Radio and I’m going to be hooking up with the guys in Ibiza at the end of the season for a live streaming event as well as playing some small interment gigs out there. Im always creating so keep an eye out for future releases.
