Viiaan Shares new EP ‘Taiko’ Via Polygonia’s QEONE Imprint

Viiaan

Berlin-based Mexican artist Viiaan unveils her new EP ‘Taiko’, a bold four-track exploration of rhythm, ritual, and futuristic bass, out now on the Munich-based imprint QEONE.

The title, drawn from the Japanese word for ‘drum’ evokes both the instrument itself and the communal energy of ancient drumming ceremonies. Across the release, Viiaan sculpts rhythm into motion, fusing primal percussion with razor-sharp digital textures to create a dialogue between the organic and the synthetic.

The opening track ‘Taiko’ sets the tone with glitchy micro-sounds and powerful drum strikes that pulse with mechanical life, conjuring a futuristic tribal ritual. ‘Amaterasu’ follows with breakbeat ferocity, soaked in vibrant percussion and charged with a raw, confident vocal. On ‘Elohalo’, trap-inspired rolls and sub-heavy grooves keep the momentum taut and physical, while ‘Azkhar’ closes the journey with deep, spacious intensity, where flowing tribal rhythms merge into a hypnotic finale. Between mechanical precision and primal power, Taiko captures rhythm as a timeless human language — ancient in essence, modern in execution.

Viiaan, the sonic alchemist from Mexico City, has transplanted her musical vision to the streets of Berlin, where she continues to shape a world of sound that defies categorization. Active as a producer, DJ, and curator since 2017, she stands at the intersection of experimental electronics and club culture. As the visionary behind Voragine, a label connecting artists across experimental sound and visual art, Viiaan’s work bridges introspection and physicality. Her sound behaves like a living organism — breaks, intricate percussion, ambient atmospheres, left-field bass, and techno intertwine to form a fluid sonic language that resists containment. This refusal to be confined is the pulse of her artistic vision.

Her discography traces a global path, with releases on Woozy Dub (Dublin), Sumac (Berlin/Sydney), Causal Chain (Montreal), WVWV (CDMX), and her own imprint, Voragine. Beyond the studio, she curates two distinct event series, Raeve and Ambient 4 Babies, gatherings that dissolve the line between performer and listener, inviting audiences into immersive worlds of rhythm, reflection, and club culture.

Released on Munich-based imprint QEONE, Taiko finds its home within a label devoted to innovation and sonic depth. Founded by Polygonia (Lindsey Wang), QEONE thrives on dissolving genre boundaries, blending broken beats and four-on-the-floor foundations across a spectrum of moods and tempos. With a growing catalogue of solo releases, VA compilations, DJ mixes, and live performances, the label celebrates both emerging and established artists while extending its aesthetic vision through Polygonia’s signature artwork and design.

Between mechanical precision and primal power, Taiko captures rhythm as a timeless human language — ancient in essence, modern in execution.
