New Orleans-based duo sfam stacks up the experimental bass vibes on their new two-track offering for Bassrush, roping in Bay Area-bred producer snuffy on the title track, fusing their forward-thinking sensibilities seamlessly.
New Orleans duo sfam return to Bassrush Records with ‘Cash Only,’ a two-track EP pushing further into the experimental edges of bass music. Out October 3rd, the release marks their first standalone project on the imprint and pairs them with LA-based producer snuffy, whose breakbeat-driven 140 aesthetic slots naturally into sfam’s warped sonic world.
On the title track “Cash Only,” sfam and snuffy twist leftfield instincts into a swamp-soaked dubstep workout. Elastic bass pressure and croaking leads spar across wide-open negative space, while sharp breakbeat percussion carves restless momentum. The result is a slow-building storm where sfam’s amorphous design collides seamlessly with snuffy’s razor-edged 140 grit.
Sharing his excitement around the collab and touching on how naturally the track came together, snuffy says, “Working with sfam has been a long-term goal of mine since the beginning of my music career. This track came together so effortlessly and represents both of our styles so well.”
“Keep the Change,” stretches the EP into even stranger terrain—a warped, off-kilter cut where low-end weight and disorienting textures bend the boundaries of groove and abstraction.
Depicting how the last 10 years has allowed them to refine and hone in on their game-changing sound, sfam shares: “We believe this EP is a reflection of how much we’ve grown, both musically and production-wise, after a decade of honing our craft. It was an honor to have our dawg snuffy on the title track as his style really brought it to life.”
