EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with CEEJAY after the Release of their Minimal House Anthem “Red Sun”

CEEJAY Release “Red Sun” – Minimal House Anthem Out Now on UFO Recordz

London duo CEEJAY continue their underground rise with a versatile new track built for dancefloors and festivals alike.

London-based DJ and production duo CEEJAY have officially released their latest track, ‘Red Sun’, out on UFO Recordz. Known for their dynamic sets and evolving sound, CEEJAY continue to carve out a distinct space in the underground with a style that fuses 90s house nostalgia, stripped-back minimal synths, and euphoric, raw garage-inspired textures.

‘Red Sun’ captures that signature versatility—built on groove-driven foundations and bouncy rhythms that radiate energy without losing the duo’s minimal edge. It’s a track designed to move both intimate dancefloors and expansive warehouse spaces, reflecting the duality of the duo’s sound.

Over the past year, CEEJAY have been making their presence felt in some of London’s most respected venues, from the atmospheric Leake Street Tunnels to the iconic Tobacco Dock, building a reputation through word of mouth and consistently high-quality sets. Now, with studio work that mirrors their live energy, the duo are signaling their intent to build something lasting—on and off the dancefloor.

We caught up with CEEJAY to chat about ‘Red Sun’ –

Congrats on Red Sun! How did the concept for this track come together, and what makes it stand out in your catalog so far?

The concept of the track was created on a recent holiday where we had so many different ideas flying around, but we created this in 2 evening sessions while the sun was setting in Egypt, this is what inspired the euphoric synths and title.

You blend 90s house, minimal synths, and raw garage flavors. What draws you to that palette, and how do you balance nostalgia with a forward-thinking sound?

It is something that has organically formed over the last 6 years during this crazy journey. We have spent a lot of time finding elements from all of our favourite music genres and over time it has fused into our sound.

Playing in venues like Leake Street Tunnels and Tobacco Dock must have been special—what have those shows taught you about connecting with a London crowd?

Very special! Those events have taught us a lot about how to read a crowd, keep & build the energy in different room capacities but most importantly, the feeling those events gave us was completely unmatchable.

As a duo, how do you split the creative process in the studio? Do you each bring different strengths, or is it more fluid?

Our creative process is very fluid, throwing down a lot of different ideas quickly to keep things fresh and moving, then cut down rather than struggle with adding sounds later on in the session is what really keeps us motivated to finish tracks. We bounce off of each other very well, we can get carried away sometimes but then the other can play quality control.

There’s a clear groove-first approach in your music—what role does rhythm play when you’re building a track or set?

We build track lists in phases and also different avenues with specific sets of bridging tracks so when we are playing we have a lot of flexibility to adapt to the response in the room. It’s all about giving ourselves the freedom to flow with little thinking.

London has a rich underground scene. Who or what in the city inspires you the most right now?

The London scene is an interesting one, you see so many artists and producers which are now commercializing which is great for the industry but we take a lot of inspiration from artists which have been around for years but have still kept that underground sound.

You’ve built a reputation largely through word of mouth. How important has grassroots support been for your growth as artists?

Yes, we’ve never had any support from management or agencies and it’s the simple things like showing mutual support to peers in the industry, networking and being active. Consistency is the key!

Beyond DJ sets, what’s your long-term vision for CEEJAY as a project? Where do you see your sound evolving over the next few years?

Long term we would love to run our own record label and party across London and Ibiza but at the moment our main focus is really crafting the CEEJAY sound to build from and working on growing our released music catalogue.

Can you share a memorable behind-the-scenes moment from working on Red Sun?

Yes there is one memorable moment which made us realise that you don’t always need to have a plan to get started on a track or to keep within “your sound”. Just use your ears! We could not find a main synth so we sat there playing around with plugins and we accidentally came up with the synth that is there on the official release.

What’s next for CEEJAY—any upcoming gigs, collabs, or releases we should keep an eye out for?

We are pushing for more sets with some announcements soon and have several label releases coming in the next months. Stay tuned and stay consistent ❤️
